Celebrations Held at Tsinghua Academy of Chinese Learning to Commemorate the 120th Anniversaty of Mr. Zhao Yuanren’s Birth
On November 3, in memory of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Zhao Yuanren, one of the “Four Great Tutors” at the old Tsinghua Academy of Chinese Learning, the Tsinghua Academy of Chinese Learning held a day-long celebration. Chen Xu, executive deputy party secretary of Tsinghua University, attended the commemorative ceremony and the book release held in the morning and gave a speech. Deng Wei, deputy party secretary of Tsinghua University, attended the opening ceremony of “Exhibition in Celebration of the 120th Anniversary of Mr. Zhao Yuanren’s Birth”. Mr. Zhao Yuanren’s grandson Huang Jialin, a professor at Central South University, was also present. Liu Dong, deputy director of the Tsinghua Academy of Chinese Learning, chaired the ceremonies.
The exhibition was hosted by the Tsinghua Academy of Chinese Learning and co-sponsored by University of California, Berkeley Library and Tsinghua University Library. In total, 49 precious items were on display, including Mr. Zhao Yuanren’s original manuscript, handwritten letters, notebooks, certificates, contract of employment, appointment letter, first-edition books, and so on. The exhibition was an honest demonstration of Mr. Zhao Yuanren’s contribution to research in the field of applied linguistics in modern Chinese history and to the development of this discipline.
In the evening, “How Can I Not But Miss Her,” a commemorative concert devoted to Mr. Zhao Yuanren, was held at New Tsinghua Xuetang.
