On March 27, 2011, SHSS’s Center for the Studies of European and American Literature (CSEAL) was launched in an inaugural symposium held in the second Conference Hall of Jiasuo Guest House on campus.

Professor Liu Shisheng, Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, hosted the symposium. Professor Luo Gang, Associate Dean of SHSS, Professor LuoLisheng, Director of Office of International Affairs of Tsinghua, and Professor Zhong Weimin, Deputy Director of Office of Liberal Arts Construction attended the symposium and expressed their congratulations.

Professor Cao Li, Director of CSEAL, gave a keynote speech under the title “Carry forward the tradition and forge ahead into the future.” Professor Wang Ning from DFLL delivered a speech of “European-American Literature and World Literature.

More than 60 scholars, teachers and graduate students attended the symposium. Some of them came from the Departments of Chinese and Literature, Philosophy, and Foreign Languages and Literatures of Tsinghua University, and others were from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, and Beijing Foreign Studies University.
